Matjiesfontein is set in spectacular terrain amidst barren mountains and wide open tranquil Karoo landscapes. Visit this living museum and step back in time, enjoy the old world charm of the Lord Milner Hotel, take a ride on the Old London Bus, or explore local history in the Transport and Victoriana museums.

Continuing northeast, the train stops in Kimberley, known for its diamond mining heritage and the Big Hole, a massive crater excavated by hand.

Synonymous with the birth of the international diamond trade, Kimberley is a picturesque little town with an extensive history. History enthusiasts can visit the impressive historical attractions scattered throughout the town and explore some of the most famous battle sites of the Anglo-Boer war, which fringe the town.

As the journey progresses, passengers witness the ever-changing scenery of the Northern Cape and the Free State, characterized by sweeping plains and distant mountains. The journey concludes in Pretoria.

An evening to relax in Johannesburg’s Peermont D’oreale Grande Hotel at Emperors Palace on a B & B basis. Downtown is a multi-cultural mixture of traditional medicine shops, Chinese restaurants, taxi ranks and ultra-modern skyscrapers. There are excellent museums, art galleries and organised tours of historical and political interest. The shopping is Southern Africa’s best and the many restaurants cater for all tastes. Soweto, a township steeped in history and a significant part of the Greater Johannesburg metropolitan area, is a popular tourist destination.

Transfer to the airport for the short flight to the Kruger National Park, one of Africa’s most famous and prolific wilderness game viewing areas.

The game viewing area is known as the ‘Southern Circle’ and is renowned for its rhinos and lions, with different prides boasting an array of different hunting techniques and behaviours to observe. Near the Hippo Pool, visitors can view ancient San rock paintings. The Southern Kruger offers incredible game-viewing opportunities and magnificent landscapes covered in African bushveld and savannah.

Transfer to the airport for the flight back to Johannesburg International for your flight home or onward journey.
