Malawi – Conservation in Action

11 Days

Specially designed for those interested in seeing conservation and sustainability in action, this fascinating 10 night journey takes you to African Park’s key success stories in Malawi.

Majete Wildlife Reserve was their first park, and had been decimated by poaching – it now is home to all of the Big Five with local communities benefiting from the success story by way of employment and schooling. As well as the incredible African wildlife, birding here is also amazing.

In Liwonde National Park, you’ll learn how the park was cleared of snares and how in 2017, African Parks began re-establishing Liwonde’s predator population by bringing back cheetah. This was followed in 2018 by a founder population of lion, and wild dog in 2021. In 2019, 17 black rhino were relocated from South Africa to Liwonde, in one of the largest international black rhino translocations in history.

Following the success of Majete and Liwonde, over 2016 and 2017 African Parks turned their attention to restocking Nkhotakota Wildlife Reserve with the incredible 500 elephants project – the biggest elephant relocation ever seen. Along with 2,000 other animals. Learn how this was accomplished and watch these incredible creatures in their new home!

These parks are testimony to the importance of wildlife reserves benefiting the communities who live alongside them. By creating local employment and tourism revenue the aim is for a long term symbiotic partnership between man and nature. A great trip for anyone interested in, or wanting to learn more about modern day conservation in Africa.
