Gabon Safari Magic: Gorillas, Elephants & Turtle Nesting Beaches

8 Days

Forest Elephants, Gorillas and Turtles of Gabon

November to February (Rainy Season best for Beach Safari and Turtle Watching)

8 Days/7 Nights

Accommodation: hotel, tented camp, beach lodge

Gabon is home to western lowland gorillas and nearly 200 other mammal species and 600 species of birds.

In Loango National Park, during the rainy season, you can find elephants and buffalos roaming freely on its endless beaches.

And, if lucky, the ‘surfing’ hippos made famous by the National Geographic documentary.

Gorilla Trekking in Gabon

Gabon is one of the lesser known places to visit gorillas.

This project is the result of years and years of investment and hard work, which resulted in the first, properly habituated, lowland gorilla group in Gabon which first opened to tourist in 2016. You will meet up with the research team and be given a briefing about the visit.

After the briefing you will depart by boat and then enter the forest on foot following a team of Pygmy master trackers whose daily task it is to track Kamaya, the western lowland gorilla silverback, and his family, including two youngsters.

Once contact is made with the gorilla group, you will have the chance to observe them from close-up (often 10 – 15 meters).

It is an incredible experience watching these great apes in their natural habitat doing what gorillas do for a living.

The Surfing Hippos of Gabon

Overview

Gabon is a rare gem for nature lovers, offering a truly wild and untouched safari experience. Its dense rainforests, coastal plains, and national parks are home to some of the planet’s most extraordinary and endangered species, including forest elephants, western lowland gorillas, and nesting sea turtles.

In Loango National Park, often called “Africa’s Last Eden,” you can watch forest elephants roam beaches, gorillas move silently through the jungle, and witness the incredible sight of leatherback and olive ridley turtles nesting along the Atlantic coast—one of the few places in the world where this happens.

Gabon’s commitment to conservation and low-impact tourism means visitors enjoy intimate, meaningful wildlife encounters far from the crowds. Whether you’re trekking through rainforest, cruising mangrove-lined rivers, or walking along turtle nesting beaches, Gabon offers a front-row seat to Africa’s most unspoiled natural wonders.

This is not your typical safari—Gabon is where the forest meets the sea, and wildlife thrives in its most natural state.
