AMAZING ZAKOUMA SAFARI

10 Days

Zakouma safari –  facts

  • Zakouma has a really short dry season. November to May.
  • Due to logisitics and distances, Zakouma is best done as part of a small group
  • The best time of year for vast concentrations of animals at the pans is at the end of the hot dry season from March to May.  That’s when we visit!
  • January and February are best for winter migrants, and more traditional wildlife viewing spread throughout the whole park
  • Zakouma is perfect for those who want a dry season safari earlier in the year.  Since the dry season here is the opposite to east and southern Africa.

Our scheduled small group Zakouma safari will be in April when maximum temperatures range from 40 C – 45C.  Temperatures peak at the end of April and early May, just before the rains come.

Above all, Zakouma is becoming renowned for its vast numbers of game during these peak months. Central African buffalo in herds of up to a thousand, roan antelope, Tiang and Lelwel hartebeest, to name just a few, congregate in large numbers around the remaining pools of water. This, in turn, attracts the predators.

Furthermore,black-crowned cranes, spur-winged geese and white-faced whistling ducks, not to mention numerous other waterbirds fill the few remaining pools.

We will also visit the Park HQ to learn about the work of African Parks, and a village school to see and hear how the local villages have benefited from the resurgence of the wildlife and safety now that poaching is under control.

A percentage of profits from the trip will be given to African Parks to support the work that they are doing.
